Application
Protocatechuic aldehyde has anti-inflammatory and coronary blood flow increasing effects. It is an active ingredient in angina pallidum and is one of the main active ingredients in the treatment of nephritis. Also used in perfume synthesis.
Protocatechuic aldehyde can be used as a precursor in the vanillin synthesis by biotransformation by cell cultures of Capsicum frutescens, a type of Chili pepper. It is also found in the mushroom Phellinus linteus.
Protocatechualdehyde (Catechaldehyde), a natural polyphenol compound isolated from the roots of radix Salviae Miltiorrhizae, is associated with a wide variety of biological activities and has been widely used in medicine as an antioxidant, anti-aging, an antibacterial and anti-inflammatory agent.
